At least a few people have them but I don't think anybody is actively breeding or selling them (unless they are keeping it incredibly low key). Curtis (cjerrom) had some in at one point might be able to bring some in for you after he gets back (mid April I believe). I'm not aware of anyone else bringing them in, haven't seen them on either Spencer's or Oliver's list for a while now.

Hope this helps!

Someone near Montreal had some (8+) for sale a few weeks ago, not sure if they are still available and if he ship ?

They are wild and between 4-4.5''. Ready to breed at 100$/each.

Look on his page on Facebook : Aqua Import Rive-Sud

It's a good price, but he had them for a few months... I saw them when a few days after they arrived, they were "ok", but not as nice as some pictures on the internet !

Not many people unfortunately in Quebec willing to pay 100$+ for a pleco, or any fish !

This pleco seems variable in colour. Some are stunning red/orange while some are brownish. Some of the ones I've seen pictures of over in the UK are awesome!

Yes, I have 3 WC L397 breeding groups and have sold over 50 fry todate. Growing out 60 more. A pic of my L397 fry is attached.

These are not hybrids. They are Genuine F1s from WC L397 parents brought in by 2 highly reputed US importers.

Most are hybrids. What buyes do is select the nice one's and sell the unknowns. At 1-2 inch L398, L169, 271 and 306 all the fry from these spcieces looks the same.when they get to 3 to 4 inch patterns will change. Even true 397s produces bad faded patterns.

I just sold a 3-4 inches L271 to a friend for $45.00。It looks very similar to some L397s posted on some sites。

Yes. Very hard to tell. All the spcies (271,397,306) lose the patterns when they fully grown. I picked up mine from big als for 30$ 2years ago as a red tiger. If you check Australia sites 20$ to 30$. Super ez to breed. Over priced thats for sure. I still like 169s

I fully endorse what Thanushan has said that the different species can look somewhat similar when young, especially if your not very familiar with L397s and have not worked with them. That is the very reason why a buyer needs to see the parents or the breeding group when buying fry or juvies.

It's also a very different story when you buy quality WC L397 adults from highly reputed importers (as opposed to yuour LFS) and then use them for your breeding program.

One can easily tell a genuine sub adult/adult L397 apart from ither pretenders like L002, L169, L306, L398 etc.

An L397 ought to have a very tight squiggly pattern on their head unlike their pretenders that have stripes or spots. The L397s also have a thin white band between the red and black bands on their fins. These traits are evident even in a quality L397 fry that is just 1 inch.

Here's a genuine specimen from my WC L397 breeding stock.

Most responsible breeders are also averse to hybridization.

Some hybrids are very very expensive though like 2464。

397s that hv *Red* colours (not brown or brownish red) are Beautiful!
