Starting this thread to keep a log of the development and eventually/hopefully the spawns of my Betta.macrostoma group.

Started keeping these beautiful fish about 3 years ago, but I never got my male to hold for the full brooding period (was told it was due to my PH. Ideal spawning/holding ph is 5.5-6.5, but the water out of tap here runs at 7.8).

Ended up trading my wild pair a while back for some cichlids. Had a left over male which I sold.

It was awesome to hear someone locally got this stunning species of betta to successfully spawn in our local water (tap with no buffers), and they were selling them for a really good price.

Really excited to have these absolutely stunning fish again. Scored with buying this group for $140 CAD, which is an absolute steal seeing in how wild pairs of these fish go for $170 USD or more (around $240 CAD) on Aquabid.

Will be growing out these juvies in my pleco tank, but once they put on some more size, I'll be transferring them their own 75 gallon that's almost finished cycling for them.
The group consist of 2 pairs of F1s. Once they reach maturity, I'll get some wild caught partners for them

Some updated shots from earlier today. Dimmed the lights on the tank (replaced the default clear glass lids panels with smoked glass panels) to make the macs feel more comfortable (seems to work with my plecos, as they're more out and about rather than hiding under their driftwood pieces).
One of my males felt really comfortable, and decided to let me do a little photo shoot with him.

Here's some updated shots of my 2 juvenile males. Male #1 is the darker fish of the two, and #2 is the lighter coloured one.
You can see their adult colours and patterns coming in nicely! (Especially in the first picture)

Forgot to post this 2 days ago, but I ended up losing one of my juvenile Betta.macrostoma males (No.2)

During a water change, I removed my lids so I could wipe down the walls of my tank. Half way through, I went to grab a drink, but ended up dropping a cup on my floor which shattered. In my panicked state, I forgot to close the lids on my tank, before I started to clean the broken glass off the floor.
I believe it was during this time that my male No.2 jumped out the tank (all Macs were in the tank prior to me accidentally dropping the cup on the floor).
Once the mess on the floor was taken care of, I finished the rest of the tank maintenance and went off to bed.

Upon turning on the aquarium lights in the morning, noticed there were only 3 Macs in the tank. Checked around tank and found the missing male dried up behind the tank stand.
The outside of Mac was dried, but the body was sti soft and had a bit of flexibility to it, so I thought maybe if I placed it back in the tank (in a fry catcher with an airstone) I could somehow revive him. Pretty dumb of me, but at that moment in time I still couldn't believe I lost one of my macs.

Truly big mess up on my part, and definitely serves as a reminder to also have my lids closed when I'm not attending to the tank.
I did message the breeder and told him what had happened, and fortunately he still had some males in stock. Got in touch with the Canadian transhipper, who was nice enough to drop 2 new males off to me the following morning.
Definitely going to miss the little guy. Out of the 2 males I origiballu got, this guy wasn't camera shy, had the brighter colours and pattern, and had a very lively personality.
Here's 2 pictures below showing the juvenile male mac I lost.

Some updated shots of the group. Changed the smoked glass panels lids out for clear ones to allow more light into the tank while taking these pictures.

Since my pair is currently going through quarantine, here's 2 shots that the supplier sent me of the new wild caught male (top) and female (bottom) Betta.macrostoma.
Pictures were taken of the pair before they were shipped to me.

These specimens are even more stunning in person. Absolutely mesmerizing!

The small tear in the female's anal fin is almost fully healed.
Will post updated pictures of the pair, once they run through quarantine and are clear.
