Pick this guy up last week. Trying to get a shot of him in the tank. Stay tuned

Any idea of sex? His odontodes aren't huge like in some other royals. He is 12" 20160901_220819.jpg 20160901_220815.jpg 20160901_220808.jpg

Got a pic tonight during a water change. In another tank got 13 l144 longfin fry and a few l201 fry into a fry saver. Going to feed them for a few weeks and put em back into the main tank. 42f1d7b6f8a26cd4d3de2c8c54fd607b.jpg

The l27 has settled in. Rearranged the tank as he saw fit and now has two hiding places.

I pulled out about 55 l144 LF fry over the past few days. The majority have done well and are growing. Only a handful of loses. Hope that continues to be true

Got a male last night. A bit smaller than I wanted but the whiskers and spikes are second to none. He's 9" from Araguaia, got him through spencer jack.

First dealing with spencer and everything went really smooth.

The box took 2 hours to make it to the cargo bay for pickup. Longer than I expected but all went well.

He is in his own tank right now, didn't want him to have to compete for any food or territory.

Not sure what happened but his whiskers have all slowly fallen out. He's been eating a variety of veg and has clean water. Anyone else experienced this?

the huge odontodes are grown by both males and females, its a time of the year thing, and in aquarium u never know whats going to happen.   Its nothing to worry about.

Ya I didn't realize that females can have such large odontodes. I sure hope they grow back.

One side still has several large ones and all them on the other side seemed to have fallen off.

Thanks for the advice.

I've had him now since for almost 4 weeks and I've notice he isn't getting "full" in the stomach. Been feeding lots of veg, algae pellets and a few other pellets get thrown in the tank. I saw tonight his stomach is a little concave, he didn't come to me this way. Is it possible that he still has some sort of parasite? Visually he looks fine. Do most wild caught plecos get treated before export? I have 5 peacock bass with him and they seem fine. Thanks

hmm, with the few royals I've kept I've never seen them get that full belly like pseudas get. maybe try some yam or sweet potato and let it stay in there for a couple days

Things are going well thanks. He just eats a ton of food. Now he is more used to the pellets and veggies I feed so he is eating more.
