So speaking merely as a layman, does a pleco need to be of a certain size to be ready to breed or is age more important?

Reading breeding reports of larger species of plecos (pseudas, scobi etc) and people having successful breeding with adolescent sized fish 6-9 inches in size rather than full size mature fish

so yea, can a fish be 4-5 years old in the aquarium, not fully grown but still be sexually mature?

thanks for any answers pleco crew :)

I think that age is the most important factor. A smaller size does not matter a whole lot as long as they are in good condition and not small from lack of a good diet.

nice I saw that! My big fat one does nothing but eat lol. comes to the surface to beg for food like a dog!

But that small size breeding gives me hope for some of mine

active water changes, proper feeding etc any other keys to breeding?

I did nothing out of the ordinary... I thought they were too small, it was a surprise !

They were 5 in a 75g tank, filtered by an old Fluval 403, AC110.

Temp at 80F, 2-3 water change every week (20g each time).

Feeding a good variety of food : Kensfish stick veggi/earthworm/brine shrimp, Northfin Kelp and carnivore wafer, Repashy, etc.
