I think the punsihment is to light . Bringing in such species can really mess up our waters. They should be put to doing some clean up of the waterways and kept in jail for a lot longer. Just my opinion

I agree it is a crime and they should be punished. But you know, up to maybe 3-4 months ago, allot of plecos we were all buying from guys here in Canada and from the US were illegal as well. Guys like Oliver would not sell plecos on the ban list as he refuses to break the law (which I respect). They are all smuggled fish before.

Plecos can never survive in our canadian waters, so its a different type of situation. But they were illegal too and we were all aware of the ban list, and we were all buying.

i know in places in southern US where they are infested with plecos.

Plecos breed pretty easily if given the right environment.

All I am saying us, most plecos we talk or have were banned for export just a few months ago. I have seen some pretty heated discussions on Planet Catfish from members telling "importers" to not use the site to try and sell or ID their pleco stock.

So I don't know. Kinda funny Canada. I sold my house this year and the agent was proven to have committed fraud. He maybe gets fined around $10K and won't even lose his license. Jim at Lucky's brings a bloody fish across provincal lines gets fined $75K and gets jail time?

I know guys who have been caught selling dope who don't get any jail time.

Punishment does not always fit the crime.

As far as plecos found in Canadian lakes. They won't be swimming in January.
